Community Birth Care Fund
The Community Birth Care Fund is a grassroots mutual aid project that supports community care providers and the families they serve. Rooted in reciprocity, not charity, this fund honors the essential labor of care as the foundation of thriving communities.
about the fund
The Community Birth Care Fund began in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in 2024. As families faced crisis, many local birth workers continued to show up with devotion β even while struggling under financial strain themselves.
What started as a rapid mutual aid response has since grown into a larger vision: a long-term, community-rooted system of care that uplifts both families and the birth workers who serve them.
what the fund supports
πΏ Community Birth Worker Support β Financial grants for doulas, midwives, lactation counselors, and perinatal mental health providers offering sliding-scale or unpaid care
πΏ Postpartum Care Packages β Nourishment, herbs, and essentials for families who might otherwise go without
πΏ Circles & Gatherings β Peer support, education, and connection for care workers
πΏ Community Mutual Aid β Rooted in solidarity and reciprocity
why this matters
Birth workers often hold families through lifeβs most tender and transformative seasons. Yet their labor is too often undervalued, underpaid, and unsupported.
This fund exists to honor and uphold that work β not as charity, but as reciprocity. Together, we can build a culture that sustains those who sustain us.
how we operate
This is not a nonprofit. We are not a 501(c)(3). The fund is a mutual aid effort, led by a network of community birth workers in Western North Carolina. Donations are not tax-deductible, but every dollar goes directly to those doing the labor of care.
